History

By: Paul Harris - Founder / Chairperson 1986 – 1996 /

Sub-Section Beginnings: 1986

  • In 1985 the General Motors Trim Plant in Windsor offered me a job in the Quality Department as a result of a Quality presentation I gave to the GM Tim Plant Management as their #1 Quality Supplier from Standard Products in Georgetown, Ontario.

  • Since I was already a member of ASQ Toronto Section, I was just going to transfer my membership to the Windsor Section, but to my surprise, in the automotive capitol of Canada, no ASQ section existed.

  • By strange coincidence the Greater Detroit ASQ Section initiated a questionnaire to their members who resided in Windsor and surrounding areas, to inquire about the interest in starting an ASQ Windsor Sub-Section sponsored by the Detroit Section and co-ordinated by one of their executive members - Roderick A. Monro.

  • Out of 60 responses, I was the only member offering to take on the Chairperson role to start the sub-section.

  • With $1000.00 of seed money, from the Greater Detroit Section, the first volunteer executive group for the ASQ Windsor sub-section met several times in 1986-7 to formulate a general meeting plan for the Windsor and area ASQ members.
